In summer 2021 uncontrolled NGOs and media have been assigned statuses of foreign agents, opposition politicians and their supporters have become extremists, even lectures and podcasts can now not be released without permission (what? yes!).
They’re trying to ban everything. But the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental right of everyone, which forms the basis of a prosperous society. The cost of protest has risen significantly. Against people who just want to be heard, a whole range of articles from the administrative and criminal code, fines, arrests, psychological pressure, and torture are used.
Lawyers are at the forefront of defending our rights. They come to those detained in police departments, defend in courts, document each violation to seek justice in the European Court of Human Rights.
Apology of Protest is engaged in the defense of protesters’ rights. It appeared in 2017 after the rallies following the Anti-Corruption Foundation investigation about the ex-president Dmitry Medvedev and since then the lawyers of Apology of Protest have defended thousands of people in courts.
This drop is entirely charitable, all the money raised, minus the store’s expenses, will go towards the work of Apology of Protest. For us, this is also a trial of a new working format, which we call a marketplace. Within this format, we help non-profit organizations and projects with development and production, as well as provide our online store as a platform.
